details in the design: hazelnut brownie
You'd need a thousand words, at least, to explain who you are. Same with a brand. And it's probably TL;DR anyway. That's why in branding, we use the shorthand of graphic design instead.
Welcome to our Details in the Design series, where we explore how our graphic design work brings a brand identity to life.
This is a beer of dessert-like treat proportions, rich and luxurious, and perfect for a winter's evening. Tempting and indulgent, the Hazelnut Brownie Imperial Chocolate Hazelnut Porter is one of the Whole Hog line of craft beer, owned by Steven's Point Brewery in Wisconsin.
The details in the design of the Hazelnut Brownie packaging focus on the flavor. The case and label show a cookbook-style illustration of a brownie. Its unique design detail is the color treatment. The photo and the package are styled in just two colors to pull focus to the flavor. The panoramic photo is not limited by the packaging, either; it wanders along the baker's table to more delicious treats, no doubt. Be still, my sweet tooth!
The typeface used for the product name and description also reinforces the taste of chocolate and hazelnut as it takes characteristics from a brownie. The solid drop shadow gives it form and solidity like a brownie square, while the distressed impression looks like that brownie's side-view. Mmmm, brownies ...
Hazelnut Brownie is one of a line of craft beer, so it exists in a larger story. One consistent detail in the Whole Hog story is the icon atop the beer glass that symbolizes the flavor. In this case, a hazelnut. Your mouth is officially watering, right?
Combined, these details arouse your senses, and your taste buds are eagerly anticipating a sip of Hazelnut Brownie Imperial Chocolate Hazelnut Porter.
